3-Step Process

  1. Apply for the Ranch Hand Service Crew program.  Here is the application that needs to be completed.  This allows you to reserve a spot for specific project(s).  Once your application is complete, both student and parent automatically receive an email.

  2. Reserve your spot for specific project(s).  The student receives this link in an email to actually reserve 1-3 spots for the desired service project(s)…THIS LINK is the final step to reserve a spot and shows the current list of students signed up.

  3. Bring a signed agreement from your parent/guardian.  The parent receives an email with an agreement that needs to be signed and brought when the student attends the service project (I’ve attached the agreement above).

All three of these steps need to be completed in order for a student to participate!

A Unique Youth Volunteer Service Program

The Aspen Effect offers a unique volunteer service program for high school students in Douglas County who are looking for ways to earn required community service hours for graduation. This program is unique in significant ways…

  • Youth Leadership. Each month will be planned and facilitated with the insight and help of our Teen Advisory Board. We will also select youth on the day of the service project to help with the day’s leadership.

  • Unique Ranch Environment. Most monthly service activities will be held at the Mane Mission Ranch in Sedalia, where teens will be given the choice to work a project outside on the property or inside our barn, serving one of the community organizations in Douglas County. A few monthly volunteer activities will be held offsite with another community partner.

  • Community Organization. Each month, we will have a different community organization present how they serve Douglas County and how youth can become involved.

  • Lunch. Each youth will be offered a free lunch by Firehouse Subs during a lunch break.

  • Teen Money Moment. During lunch, each participating youth will learn a financial life skill lesson from our sponsor, Fidelis Wealth Advisors. It might be learning the difference between a credit card and a debit card or how to begin building wealth now as a teenager.

  • Debrief. Each Saturday will end with a moment to reflect on insights gained and lessons learned about leadership, life and working as a team.

No fee required. Donations welcomed! Limited number of youth to fill available slots each month. Most service events are on the fourth Saturday of each month throughout the year.
